Explain the Immaculate Conception to Kids

Catholic ABC’s Week: 14
Letter of the week: I
Theme: Immaculate Conception
Saint of the Week: St. Ignatius
Craft: Immaculate Conception Coloring Page

I is for Immaculate Conception

This Immaculate Conception coloring sheet was drawn by me last year. It is designed to help children (and all Catholics for that matter) understand that the Immaculate Conception refers to Mary being conceived without original sin; it is not referring to when Mary conceived Jesus.

Coloring sheet of Saint Anne and the Immaculate Conception

Symbolism in this picture includes Mary in the womb of St. Anne (wearing her signature veil). St. Anne and Mary both have their backs turned towards the apple tree to visually state that Mary was conceived without original sin. There are 3 beams of light coming down from the sun that stand for the Trinity. Also, the snake (Satan) is unhappy about what has happened here.

Grab Bag Ideas for the Letter Ii: (be sure to check out the Classroom Script for directions on using the grab bag.) Iguana, Igloo, Indy car, Ice cream cone, Indian corn, Inchworm, toyIron, Invitation, Ivy, Island, Icon, Immaculate Heart, Insect, Instrument.

  3. Thank you for the coloring page!

  4. Thank you soooo much for the coloring page! Quick and easy, fun way to explain the reason for today’s Mass & what The Immaculate Conception is to kids. I’m sooo non-crafty and this fit the bill perfectly. Thank you!!

Its beautiful and thanks a million for all you do Lacy!!!! Can you add Joachim because it looks like Mary was conceived without an earthly father…. Kids always get the Immaculate Conception confused with the Incarnation. Thanks so much again.

  6. Hi Lacy, I printed out 5 copies of your St. Anne coloring page which does a fabulous job illustrating the meaning of the Immaculate Conception. I blogged about it today and linked back to you. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with all of us! My first graders benefited greatly by your drawing. Advent blessings to you and your family!

I am subscribed to your site and have purchased your Catholic ABC’s book. Why can’t I access the coloring pages?

    • Hi Lori Ann –

The coloring page from this post is available to everyone and you’ll just need to click on the large blue button that says “Get Your Free Download Click Here!!!” I just tried it and the coloring page came right up for me. Maybe give it a try again if you have already tried.

When I click on that blue box I get a message that says Google Drive Access Denied.

        • I’m not sure why that is happening because I’m not getting that message when I click through on it. (And it’s on Lacy’s account, so it’s not because it’s my account.) How weird!

I moved the printable to the site so you should be able to click through and get it now.

      • Hi Angie!
I tried clicking on the link, but it brings me to a Google page where I have to request access. Is there an alternate way to download and print?

        Thank you!

        • I’m not sure why that is happening because I’m not getting that message when I click through on it. (And it’s on Lacy’s account, so it’s not because it’s my account.) How weird!

I moved the printable to the site so you should be able to click through and get it now.

  10. Hello! I’m also getting the “Access Denied” message that another commenter mentioned. I’ve had no issues downloading free content from you before, or content that requires being on the email list, but this just pops up with a Google Drive message saying “You need access.” Any suggestions? Thanks!

    • Hi Katie –

I don’t know why you would still be having that issue because the links in this post for the coloring page no longer go to Google Drive, but direct to somewhere here on the site. I changed that a couple of days ago.
