The Lent Song for Kids

I recently got a fabulous email from a reader, Alexandra Montano, with this adorable Lenten song for kids! She’s been using it with her Catholic ABC program. She said it was ok to share it with all of you here, so I typed it up in a downloadable version you can print for free! 🙂

The Lent Song

It’s to the tune of “Frere Jacques” (in English, “Are You Sleeping” or “Brother John”)

I also posted a little video of myself singing it with the hand motions. Hopefully, this helps you learn it and teach your kids. I absolutely love all the great content packed into this little, child-friendly song!

This song really is a great way to teach kids about Lent either at home or in the classroom, and the hand motions make it extra fun! Thanks for submitting this, Alexandra! 🙂

I’ll be posting a craft that goes with this soon, so check back later this week. Also, check out my St. Patrick’s Day Trinity Song from last year to use this weekend!

  1. I love it,t hank you for sharing. I’m always trying to find ways to help my little guy understand what Lent is all about.

  2. Lacy, thanks so much for sharing with your readers and for the beautiful printable!

  3. This is so cool! Thanks for sharing and the video is great 🙂

  4. Cute song. My girls like the St. Patrick song and love their St. Patrick puppets, too! My older daughter (3 1/2) even added cotton balls to St. Patrick’s vestment to keep him “cozy!”

  5. This is really cute, Lacy! Thanks for sharing and I pray your last leg of Lent is filled with peace and grace. Hope you are feeling settled into your new place and your pregnancy is going well:) God bless!

  6. It’s the 16th and I don’t see any sweet comments today!!! Must be my turn. You are adorable and this is a great little song. Thank you so much. So many are blessed by your creativity.

  7. Thank you so much for the song! I can’t seem to download the song sheet…I click on it and it will not download…any suggestions?

  8. Love the song, but my favorite part is getting to see your cute baby bump in the video. 🙂

  9. Hi! I just wanted to thank you so much for your blog and ideas! I recently found you quite by accident and have added you wherever I could! You are an inspiration! I am a preschool teacher and mother of 5 children now ages 23 to 13! We are currently using your stations of the cross activity in my classroom now and we add 3 stations a week to be completed by Holy Thursday! God Bless you, your family and your endeavors!

  10. Cute song for my K CCE class!

  11. You’re a singer too, Lacy?! You’re a multi-talented lady! Thanks for sharing your video. Blessings to you and your family.

    • Haha! No, I’m not really a “singer”. But I do live pretty much completely on that artistic side of my brain. 😉

  12. Lacy, I love all your wonderful Easter/Lent ideas and posts. I would love to link to your printable characters post and your doughnut tomb recipe. Do I have permission to use photos? I would just post a photo and then link/send people to your blog for full tutorials/info.

    • That sounds fine as long as you only use 1 photo and don’t give full directions. 🙂

  13. Aloha,
Thank you for posting this . I’m always looking for ways to teach children new songs that are meaningful and related to our topics which we talk about. When I first seen this video clip it made me smile because I know my students will love learning and practice singing it often during lent.

  14. This is really great for the littlest guys! And I love the hand motions! When they get older, I like “Lent” by the Dogma Dogs. It’s actually kind of the same material (concepts) but in more depth, and sounds like the “Stray Cat Strut.”

    Thanks for your site!!
