Printable Bible Verse Valentines

A few years ago, we made some Valentines with scripture verses on them. Each of them had something to do with love, and also had a “punny” treat that went along with it. This year, I put together some printable valentines with the bible verses to make it easy for everyone to use them!

There are no watermarks on the ones you can download. I put them all on one sheet incase you want some variety with your valentines, but I also made full pages of each one incase you wanted them all to be the same (so you only need one kind of Valentine treat to go with them).

This one gets paired with Hershey’s Kisses.

This one gets paired with raisins

(a healthier alternative than most Valentines.)

Find a fruity candy (such as runts) to go with

this “Fruits of the Spirit” Valentine.

Pair this Valentine with some “Life” Savers.

This one goes with a small Almond “Joy” bar.

I like this one a lot– pair it with a fire ball!

(By the way, this one is a prayer, not a scripture verse.)

If you want to craft them yourself, you can do that too. I just though the printing option would make it a little easier on y’all. ;-)

Valentine Countdown Chain- 1 Love Bible Verse a Day {Free to Print!}

I know it’s still January, but I wanted to share this early in case you’re already making St. Valentine’s Day plans. We’re going to be counting down the days to Saint Valentine’s day this year with a heart-shaped paper chain. Each piece of paper has a bible verse about love on it. So each day, you tear off one heart, read a bible verse, and you’re a little closer to St. Valentine’s day! The best part is, the countdown chain is printable and you can all download it for free!

This project was inspired by my friend Maureen’s Advent Chain. (I’ve actually been inspired by Maureen a lot lately. First the nativity sensory bin, then the  scratch n’ sniff paint, and most recently the trinity snowmen!)

The free download for this is all in black and white, so it won’t eat your expensive ink- just print it on colored paper. You print the first bible verse page on red, and the second on pink. That way you can make a pattern when building the chain. Just print, and cut on the dotted lines. I love all the cute Valentine’s day fonts I used on these- so much fun!

Making the paper loops into hearts is super easy to do! Just fold the strips in half, curl the ends in, and staple together.

Keep alternating from red to pink until you have all 14 love bible verses attached- one for each day of February until St. Valentine’s day!

The download also includes a heart “topper” for your paper chain. I printed mine on some cute scrapbooking paper, cut it out with adorable scissors, and framed it with some red paper.

I love the cuteness factor that is added by cutting these hearts out with scrapbooking scissors!

There’s a little heart at the bottom of this page. Poke a small hole through your paper with a pin in this heart, and thread a pipe cleaner through it. You can use the pipe cleaner to attach your chain to the heart at the top.

I just absolutely love the look of the heart paper chain!

That’s it! Hang it up in your house. Remove one link for each day in February, and read the verse.

This Valentine’s Day advent chain is available to print for free! It’s on my special page for those who are subscribers of Catholic Icing. Sacred and Immaculate Heart “Play Doh” Cookies

Don’t let the name of these cookies scare you off- these are 100% edible cookies! They just look like play doh, and you get to play with them like you’re a little kid again. And let me tell ya- your kids are gunna LOVE making these cookies!

The feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus falls 19 days after Pentecost, which is this Friday. The Feast of the Immaculate Heart always falls on the day after the feast of the Sacred Heart (and is always on a Saturday). But the whole month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart, and the month of August is dedicated to the Immaculate Heart, so you have a big window to celebrate in! :-)

First you’ll need to make your dough. In my opinion, this is the least fun part. If you’re in a patient mood, allow your toddler to “help” you. ;-) Here are the ingredients. I went ahead and doubled the recipe for you to make it “big family friendly”, which will make about 25 heart shaped play doh cookies.

How to Make Play Doh Cookies

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups butter, softened
6 ounces cream cheese, softened
2 cups white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons almond extract
5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
For Decorating:
gel food coloring
white sugar

Start by creaming the butter, sugar, and cream cheese. Then add the eggs and almond extract. Stir until smooth. In a separate bowl mix dry ingredients, and add to the butter mixture. Color as desired and roll into 2 inch balls. Cover and refrigerate for 2+ hours. When firm, shape as desired (directions below for how to make Sacred and Immaculate Heart cookies). Preheat oven to 350. Sprinkle the top of each cookie with white sugar, and cook for 12-15 minutes or until cookies begin to brown on edges.

For the sacred heart cookies, I divided my dough in quarters. I made one quarter red, one quarter pink, split one quarter between yellow and orange, and split the last quarter to make purple and left the last eighth white.

Begin by sticking 2 colors together. For my Sacred Heart cookies I used red and orange, and for my Immaculate Heart cookies I used red and pink.
Roll this into a long coil. My dough did crack when I was doing this. You can stick it back together if it brakes. I found it was best to start in the middle and roll towards the edges. It also seemed to work better if we rolled using our finger tips rather than the entire palm of our hands.

Then roll the coil into a spiral circle.
Use the end of a butter knife to dent a top in for the heart shape, and then pinch the bottom of the cookie to complete the heart.
Here are the pieces I used to put together Immaculate Heart Cookies.
(The Immaculate Heart of Mary has flames coming out of the
top and is surrounded by roses).
Here are the needed pieces for the Sacred Heart Cookies.
(The Sacred Heart of Jesus also has flames coming out
of the top, but it is surrounded by a crown of thorns).
You can shape the flames by making the dough into a ball, and then pinching the end to a point. Wrap an orange coil around the yellow shape to complete the flame.

I found that the crown of thorns and roses stuck just fine, but the flames will fall off after the cookies are baked if you don’t stick them on really well.

Before you bake them, sprinkle the tops with sugar. This makes them a little sparkly, plus it makes them super yummy to eat. :-)
Here are the finished cookies! I think they would be
the perfect cookies for a Catholic bake sale!
And what isn’t cuter on a stick?

Lolipop cookies are just adorable!

Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

Crafts for the Chair of St. Peter

The feast of the Chair of St. Peter is coming up on February 22. You can read more about it here at Catholic Culture (a site that I love!). Here are some ideas for celebrating the feast of the Chair of St. Peter with kids. (Start by checking out some pictures of the Chair of St. Peter, then move onto some of these fun ideas!)

This stained glass window craft from By Sun and Candlelight
looks just like the stained glass window above the chair!!!
I couldn’t love this craft more, and she posted great directions!

Try crafting a chair yourself to go in front of your stained glass
window. I love the idea of making one from a tissue tube!
I found these at Mid-Craft Crisis. (I think it goes without saying
to modify this craft- think less Barbie, more St. Peter). ;-)

Love this edible chair for this feast day celebration from
Catholic Cuisine! Adorable and easy- doesn’t get better than that!
(This picture was posted with permission)

I love this St. Peter cake from Our Daily Life and Work!
She also suggests playing musical chairs. What a cute idea!

Find another Chair of St. Peter Round-up on Familia Catolica. Happy celebrating! If you have a minute, I’m still up for best Catholic blog and you can vote here daily. Thanks so much for all your support on facebook! You guys are the best! :-)
