Craft: The 4 Gospels in Handprints

This week we are studying the number 4, so we are learning about the 4 gospels! Each gospel has a symbol- A winged lion for Matthew, a winged ox for Mark, an angel for Luke, and an eagle for John. We made all 4 crafts at the same time, but you could certainly do them one per day or let each of your kids make 1 or 2 of them. Whatever you want

Materials Needed For 4 Gospels Handprint Craft:

Construction paper
Washable tempra paint (yellow, brown, white, and blue)
Black Marker
Access to your Hands and Feet

Gospel of Mark Craft

The lion is made from an upside down footprint. The lion’s wings are handprints. Use thumbprints to make the lion’s mane and use your pinkie finger to draw on his tail and dot the end of his tail. After he’s dry draw his face on with a black marker.

Gospel of Luke Craft

Make your ox from 2 handprints. The head of the ox is made by making a fist and printing the pinkie side of your hand. His wing is a handprint, and you can fingerpaint his horns on. When he’s dry, add some eyes and nostrils with a black marker.

Gospel of Matthew Craft

One upside down footprint, 2 handprints for wings, and a finger painted halo make this angel. His head is a circle cut from a file folder and his face is drawn on with a black marker.

Gospel of John Craft

Make 2 handprints for the body and wings of the eagle. To make his head, make a fist with your hand and print with the pinkie side of your hand. Use your pinkie and some yellow paint to dot on his beak and 2 feet.

We really enjoyed learning about the 4 gospels this week! Hope you enjoy this craft

St. John the Apostle has a feast day coming up right after Christmas. The sign of St. John is the eagle, so here are some cute eagle foods I have made!

Eagle Marshmallow Pop

If you want to make your own eagle marshmallow pop, here’s what you’ll need:

Lollipop Sticks
Large Marshmallows
Dark Chocolate Chips
White Gumdrops
Shredded Coconut
Almond Bark
Black Food Color Paste
Flower Shaped Sprinkles

Here’s what you do:

For the Body~
Put your large marshmallow on the stick and cover in melted dark chocolate. Stick on 2 yellow flower-shaped sprinkles for his feet, and chocolate chips for the wings. Allow to cool. Use a blob of melted almond bark to stick on shredded coconut for the eagle’s tail.

For the Head~
Melt your dark chocolate and almond bark until smooth. Dip the bottom of your white gumdrop into the melted almond bark, then dip into your shredded coconut to make the “feathers” on his neck. Cut a slit where his beak goes, and insert a sideways yellow flower-shaped sprinkle. For the eyes, make 2 dots with black food color paste using a dull toothpick (as a substitute for one of those awesome food markers).

Eagle Head Quesadillla

This eagle head quesadilla is really easy to make. Just fold a tortilla in half, and then cut out a “ghost” shape with some scissors. It cuts very nicely with scissors. Then, put some cheese in the middle and microwave (or fry it if you’re a little more ambitious than me, or if you’re preparing it for adults). Finish off by cutting the beak shape out of a slice of cheddar cheese, and stick a raisin on there for an eye
