I recently shared our family’s absolute favorite cookie recipe for the most delicious cookies ever, and one of the things I love so much about these cookies are that they can be made in any color to be festive for a variety of feast days! We like to make them for Mardi Gras as kind of a big final delicious bang before we begin our Lenten fasting, and they are quite beautiful in purple, green, and gold as well. We call these “Heaven Melt Cookies” and I hope you love these Mardi Gras Cookies as much as we do!
These are not the easiest, cheapest, fastest, or healthiest cookies to make, but they are certainly unbelievably delicious! They are crumbly and buttery, creamy and flaky all to the delight of your taste buds!
Ingredients Needed For Heaven Melt Cookie Dough
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup softened butter (seriously, make sure it’s soft, and do not use margarine)
- granulated sugar (For Mardi Gras cookies, you will need green, yellow, and purple. I didn’t have purple, so instead we just colored the icing purple, but I think it would be better to have sugar in all 3 Mardi Gras colors.)
Also, wax paper or parchment paper
I have a post here all about how to make your own colored sugar. It’s super easy to do and you will save money for sure!
Ingredients Needed For Heaven Melt Cookie Cream Filling
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cups softened butter (again, not margarine)
- 2 tsps almond extract (you could substitute another extract here such as vanilla, mint, etc, but we love love love using the almond extract!)
- food color optional (We used purple for this set)

These cookies are just so beautiful once they are coated in sugar! It’s like they’re sparkling with glitter! But the most delicious glitter there ever was. I absolutely love making these in festive colors for various feasts and celebrations, and this Mardi Gras bunch is one of my favorites!

Serve these delicious little butter wafer cookies with hot tea, coffee, or milk.
These are my absolute favorite cookies, and I don’t even care how much Zumba I have to do to work them back off after I eat them.
