When celebrating the liturgical year with my kids, we just love to celebrate Marian feast days! Sometimes there are specific foods we eat for individual feast days of Our Lady, but these beautiful blue feast day cookies will add some festive fun to any Marian feast day. You can find more resources on honoring Mary with your kids here. Now let’s take a look at this Mary cookie recipe!
These cookies are not only a beautiful blue for the feast day of Mary, but they are absolutely the most delicious cookies ever- my absolute favorites! They’re not the easiest to make, but the cookies themselves are totally worth the work. These are sure to please any cookie lover!
These are no ordinary cookies. Our family calls them “heaven melts” because they are the creamiest butter cookies you have ever eaten, and they melt right in your mouth! The dough itself doesn’t have any sugar in it, which is why the outside of the cookies are covered in sugar. This gives the cookies a beautiful sparkle like glitter!
Ingredients Needed For Heaven Melt Cookie Dough
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup softened butter (seriously, make sure it’s soft, and do not use margarine)
- granulated sugar (For Mary cookies, you will need blue.)
You will also need some wax paper.
So we pushed the cookies into blue sugar before baking them.
We used both a regular blue sugar, and a special decorating sugar (with mixed colors) that I found in the cake decorating aisle.
If you put the sugar in little bowls, it’s easier to press the sugar onto the cookies.

I have a post here all about how to make your own colored sugar. It’s super easy to do and you will save money for sure!
Ingredients Needed For Heaven Melt Cookie Cream Filling
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cups softened butter (again, not margarine)
- 2 tsps almond extract (you could substitute another extract here such as vanilla, mint, etc, but we love love love using the almond extract!)
- food color optional (We used purple for this set)
