Simple Celebration for Mary’s Birthday

The nativity of Mary is September 8 (9 months after the feast of the Immaculate Conception.) Although we’ve had more elaborate celebrations in the past, our family had a simple celebration this year. We made Mary a birthday cake!

We made a simple angel food cake from a box mix, and drizzled it with some blue glaze (Our Lady’s color.) I set out a Mary statue, and put 10 candles in the cake (one for each “Hail Mary” in a decade of the rosary.) Lydia joked that Mary must be really old and we could never really put enough candles on her cake- so true! 😉

After dinner, we lit the candles, prayed 1 Hail Mary, and then sang Happy Birthday to Mary. When it comes to kids, you can’t go wrong with cake. 🙂
