Well as Covid 19 rears its ugly head, the world is finding themselves unable to gather in groups for Mass. I wrote a post with things you can do with kids when attending Mass isn’t possible. One of the things on that list is to take “Spiritual Communion”, which is highly recommended by many Catholic Saints. This week I made a printable pack with a spiritual communion prayer and craft for kids that I hope helps you keep this tradition alive in your homes during this time!
What The Saints Say About Spiritual Communion:
- St. Thomas Aquinas- “an ardent desire to see Jesus in the Holy Sacrament and a loving embrace as though we had already received Him”
- St. Teresa of Jesus- “When you do not receive communion and you do not attend Mass, you can make a spiritual communion, which is a most beneficial practice; by it the love of God will be greatly impressed on you”
- St. Pope John Paul II- (on Spiritual Communion) “…it is good to cultivate in our hearts a constant desire for the sacrament of the Eucharist”
- St. Jean -Marie Vianney- “There are some who make a spiritual communion every day with blessed bread. If we are deprived of Sacramental Communion, let us replace it, as far as we can, by spiritual communion, which we can make every moment; for we ought to have always a burning desire to receive the good God. Communion is to the soul like blowing a fire that is beginning to go out, but that has still plenty of hot embers; we blow, and the fire burns again. After the reception of the Sacraments, when we feel ourselves slacken in the love of God, let us have recourse at once to spiritual communion. When we cannot go to the church, let us turn towards the tabernacle; no wall can shut us out from the good God”

Spiritual Communion Prayer For Kids
I looked at several versions of a spiritual communion prayer, and for kids I liked this one from St. Alphonsus Liguori, an Italian Bishop. It has been modified just enough to use modern English for the children.
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament.
I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace You as if You have already come, and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from You.
Amen.
I was looking for a kid friendly way to encourage kids to take spiritual communion during this time and didn’t find anything. So I put this together! The Printable Spiritual Communion Pack For Kids! You can download your pack now for the regular price of $4.
During this current time with Coronavirus spreading and many of us staying at home on Sundays, I am going to run this half-price throughout as much of 2020 as needed, so you can download yours for just $2!!! I hope this blesses your family!
Printable Spiritual Communion Pack For Kids Includes:
- 1 spiritual communion coloring page
- 2 tabernacle coloring pages to choose from with the spiritual communion prayer inside
- 1 tabernacle door coloring page
- 1 copy of the tabernacle shown above already in color in case you don’t want to color it yourself
This prints at home and can be as easy or complex as you want! You can print it either on paper or card stock- we used card stock. First choose which tabernacle you want to use, and you color it the colors of your choice…
My girls were creative with their colors!
Be sure to color the door of your tabernacle also.
For extra fun you can add glitter, jewels, or whatever embellishments you may have and want to include. Kids love doing that! Then cut out the pieces.
The piece with the dotted line is the section where the glue stick goes. Then the little door sticks on and folds back where the dotted line is.
Now your tabernacle door can close…
or open!
Post continues after this brief information about the Catholic Icing Monthly Membership
Monthly Liturgical Membership
And when it’s open, it reveals your prayer for Spiritual Communion.
Here are the girls with theirs! Closed…
and open!!!
The Spiritual Communion craft can now be taped up or displayed somewhere in your home. When you want to receive Spiritual Communion, you just go over, open the tabernacle door, and pray the prayer.
I love how colorful the girls made theirs!
There is also a coloring page version included in the pack that is not a craft. This would be lovely to hang on your wall for refrigerator to remind your family to pray this prayer.
I hope your family enjoys this craft as much as mine did! Grab yours now!!!
God bless, and stay safe and healthy out there!

Hi Lacy,
These are beautiful! I just purchased them. Do you recommend a way to share this with my Sacrament prep class since we are on distance learning for the time being? Thank you for all the wonderful, creative crafts and ideas!
Yes I absolutely do. In fact, I recommend this resource at the beginning of First Communion prep for all kids to use this prayer through the year during their preparation. My own kids used this as well during their FHC preparations. It has been on my computer for awhile lol. Thank you so much for your support of Catholic Icing!
Lacy,
You continue to be a light to shine for others in our community and we pray for your continued inspiration from God.
My husband, Greg, and I teach First Holy Communion classes and off and on for the past 20 years. He teaches the lessons and I do the crafts with the children. Everything we do now comes from your website. It is Heaven on Earth for the children and us! Thank you, thank you!
You are my “Catholic-Craft-Super-Go-To-Girl”! Since you have the gift of creating and sharing the most wonderful crafts my job is simple. Sometimes I combine your insightful and creative projects and finishing touches – like , for example, “Mod Podging” the Last Supper table scene and adding a cloth table cloth.
The amount of talent, research, information, fun you share with us is priceless! The children are engaged! Parents have told us they bring the crafts home and spend hours sharing and talking about what they learned in class! That is the ultimate compliment anyone can receive and you need to know what an impact you have in our community. We tell everyone where we get our ideas and have found that quite a few are familiar and use your website! Yay!
God bless your family and you and God bless all of what you do!
God is Good All the Time!
With love and prayers,
Judy and Greg

Hi Linda,
I couldn’t find a purchase under the email that you used for this comment, so if you could drop me an email that would be helpful: https://www.catholicicing.com/contact-me/
Also, please include your last name when you email since that will help me to find your transaction in case it had a typo in the email address in the order.
Thanks,
Angie, Catholic Icing Project Manager
