As you may have seen, I shared my family’s favorite cookie recipe- the most delicious cookies ever! Besides being absolutely the yummiest cookies at all time I love how they can be decorated with different colors of sugar to take on totally different looks. We bake them for various feast days and special occasions, including St. Valentine’s day. This year we made the most delicious St. Valentine’s Day cookie recipe red for this occasion, although any variety of red, pink, or purple would work.
I have said it before but I’ll say it again- these cookies are my favorite! They’re buttery and flaky, creamy and delicious! They may not be the fastest or easiest to make, but their “wow” factor when you eat them totally makes up for the work they take.
The reason why we chose to make the cookies red and white for St. Valentine is because these are the traditional colors representing martyrdom, which Saint Valentine was a martyr. The red represents the blood that was spilled, and the white represents the innocence in the person not deserving of it.
Ingredients Needed For Heaven Melt Cookie Dough
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 cup softened butter (seriously, make sure it’s soft, and do not use margarine)
- granulated sugar (For St. Valentine’s Day cookies, you will need red, pink, or even possibly purple)
You will also need some wax paper.
I have a post here all about how to make your own colored sugar. It’s super easy to do and you will save money for sure!
Ingredients Needed For Heaven Melt Cookie Cream Filling
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cups softened butter (again, not margarine)
- 2 tsps almond extract (you could substitute another extract here such as vanilla, mint, etc, but we love love love using the almond extract!)
- food color optional (We used purple for this set)
For my full directions and ninja tips for making these cookies (and skipping an entire step!) find my recipe for heaven melt cookies here. There is a printable recipe at the end of that post as well.
I love how these cookies look like they sparkle with glitter once they’re coated in sugar!

Serve these delicious little butter wafer cookies with hot tea, coffee, or milk.
These are my absolute favorite cookies- I just try to make sure I get some extra gym time after I eat them. 😉
